The 12th annual Pedaling for Payson event is around the corner. I am very excited about the event this year more than any other for a few reasons. For one I am a member of the Tour De Day Surgery team which is the top fundraising team. This is achieved only through your generous donations. I am always proud and thrilled to be a part of such a passionate team.
Due to your support of this event, our team, over the last 10 years has raised $80,000.00. With your help, reaching our goal this year of $20,000.00 will bring us to the $100,000.00 mark. The money that we raise goes into the Gene Gillis Fund which then goes directly to patients who need help in some way during their treatment, such as gas/food cards, lodging, wigs etc..
My passion for this event comes from having loved ones that have had cancer and friends currently battling the disease. My involvement grows with each passing year as I learn more about what patients go through on their journey. I recently had a tour of the Payson Center which was most informative. It shed more light on the task at hand and helped me understand as much as possible what a day in the life of my friends and others confronted with this diagnosis looks like.
Along with the Gillis Endowment Fund, the event has raised enough money to fund two nurse navigator positions. The nurse navigator guides patients to the help they may need to find support with community, medical or financial means at a time when they are going through incredibly difficult emotional, physical and financial stress.
My excitement and passion goes a long way and by sharing with you this little bit of information, I hope that you will join us in this event either by volunteering, pedaling or donating to this most unique and crucial cause.
Without you, none of this would be possible.
Peace and good health,
